The Rise and Fall of the MAC Rodarte Collection

Rodarte Collection
So for the past couple of months, the blogosphere has been abuzz about the one of the newest MAC collections which consisted of a collaboration with Rodarte, a clothing brand founded by Laura and Kate Mulleavy. The collection was designed to focus on a trip the design duo went on that took them on a journey through Mexico. Sounds innocent enough right? All seemed well until the names of some of the items of this collection were released including Juarez, Factory and Ghost Town. Why does this matter, you ask?
Juarez, Mexico is a town in Mexico that has been called one of the most violent places in the world that isn't an active war zone. Juarez is probably most infamous for it femicides, or female homicides, of women factory workers ranging in age from 12 to 22. Following me now? Since 1993, authorities have speculated that there have been more than 400 deaths but many local residents believe the death toll is well into the thousands. Women are often found days or months later left out in the desert or abandoned in vacant lots. In Mexico, they even have a saying for these women: las muertas de Juárez.
MAC initially planned to continue release of the collection, despite the backlash, with changed cosmetic names and a donation of the profits from sales. However on a statement released on MAC's official Facebook, MAC expressed their regret and dropped the news that the collection would no longer be hitting stores. Here's their official statement:

Out of respect for the people of Mexico, the women and girls of Juarez and their families, as well as our MAC Mexican staff and colleagues, MAC has made the decision not to ship the MAC Rodarte limited edition makeup collection. This decision will have no impact on MAC’s commitment to donate all of its projected global profits from this collection to local and international groups that work to improve the lives of the women and girls of Juarez. We are currently conducting due diligence to ensure we donate to organizations with a proven record of directly supporting the women and girls of Juarez. MAC and Rodarte are deeply and sincerely sorry and we apologize to everyone we offended. We have listened very closely to the feedback of concerned global citizens. We are doing our very best to right this wrong. The essence of MAC is to give back and care for the community and Rodarte is committed to using creativity for positive social change. We are grateful for the opportunity to use what we have learned to raise awareness on this important issue. What do you guys think about the whole controversy?

Not everyone is a fan of Kim K. (or any of the Dash girls for that matter) but I personally love her style. It literally screams: "Look at My Curves!". Destructed denim, printed blazers and body hugging dresses are staples in Kim's wardrobe. And did I mention how flawless her face is nearly every time I see it? You can definitely expect to see more of Kim's looks, both clothing and make up, displayed and recreated here. So if you don't like her... :)How do you feel about Kim?

Need It, Want It, Gotta Have It
Labels:
Polyvore Looks,
wishlist
After days of trying, I was finally able to get my Polyvore to work and created this set featuring pieces that are on my wishlist and hot for fall 2010.
What's on your wishlist for the fall?
- ASOS CURVE Faux Leather Bomber - $75.83 - Do I really need to explain this one? A leather bomber just screams fall/winter.
- ASOS CURVE Ruched Sleeve Drapey Jacket - $126 - This jacket is more of an honorable mention but its gorgeous so I couldn't leave it out. The drape of the jacket and the asymetical hemline makes it a piece to lust for.
- Embroidered Back Pocket Jean - $30 - These jeans have the perfect wash for my taste and their embroidered pockets make them stand out from your every day jean.
- Black Sequin Tank - $38 - Sequins and jewels always make this girl happy and the fact that they're also slated to be a hot trend this fall only makes this top from Torrid better.
- Crochet Black Vine Tights - $15 - Lace accessories are continuing to be hot into the fall and these tights with their black vine detail are just perfect!
- ASOS CURVE Pleat Waist Jersey Cuff Trouser at ASOS - $37 - These jersey cuff trousers are a perfect mixture of fashion and comfort with their pleated waist and cuffs made of soft, movable jersey fabric.
- Polka Dot Platform Heels - $26 - Umm hello... Cute!
- Suedette Ankle Bootie - $35- The moment I saw this bootie, I immediately fell in love with it! From the platform, to the powerful heel with the metalic accent on the from made this shoe a must have for me.

iHEART Monif C
I, like some of you, have always loved and admired Monif C designs. Though I've never been privileged enough to own any of her pieces, I definitely oogle the Monif C selection from time to time and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's jaw dropped when the 2010 Swimwear collection was released. Well, she's definitely done it again with the Pre-Fall 2010 collection for Monif C which features her signature convertible dresses in new styles and colors, as well as a jumpsuit in eye popping prints and even a tank top! I've posted below some of my personal picks in hopes that one day one of them will land in my closet.
