A few days ago, my best friend was searching for synonyms for the word fat and this is what she found:
beefy, big, blimp, bovine, brawny, broad, bulging, bulky, bull, burly, butterball, chunky, corpulent, distended, dumpy, elephantine, fleshy, gargantuan, gross, heavy, heavyset, hefty, husky, inflated, jelly-belly, lard, large, meaty, obese, oversize, paunchy, plump, plumpish, ponderous, porcine, portly, potbellied, pudgy, roly-poly, rotund, solid, stout, swollen, thickset, weighty, whalelike
I was appalled. Is this how people look at us? If someone described me as whalelike or elephantine I don't know if I'd burst into tears or punch them in the face. It's time for this to change.
I'm 22 years old shopaholic/fashion addict and I currently reside in North Carolina. Like a lot of plus sized women, I've become frustrated with the fashion industry and the lack of quality and trendy options for us. Due to this lack of options, I've only had two pairs of jeans that have truly fit me and only one of those pairs was purchased within the last two years. Everything else in my closet consisted of more mature clothing from places like Lane Bryant and Ashley Stewart or ill-fitted jeans and sweat pants.
So, in 2010 I decided to make a resolution like most people in America. Not to lose weight or get a better job or anything like that (although I probably should have). Instead I resolved to completely revamp my wardrobe with only items that I love and that fit my personality. I resolved to not be discouraged by what society or "fashion experts" tell me I should wear and I resolved to share my journey into the world of "fatshion" with the world (that's you!). I'll be the first person to admit that I have no professional experience in the world of fashion or any formal training and I'm not trying to make myself out to be a fashion guru by any means. I do, however, simply want to share my opinions and the little knowledge I do have.
Hi, my name is Carmella and iHEARTfatshion!
